I just installed WBS Modeler add-in for Visio 2010 (I have Visio Premium 2010 installed). The add-in works great for exporting a Visio WBS to .mpp, but when I import an .mpp file to a blank WBS Modeler document, I get a blank Element Explore Window, see attached screendump and no tasks, even though I have created several levels of tasks in my test .mpp file.

NB: I have Project Professional 2010 installed.

I do have the same problem and I have Visio 2010 Prof. and Project 2010 Prof.. I looking longer to get a solution!

Hi guys,

make sure the display language of both Project and Visio is English! I had that behavior when using Project Client with German Display language. I bet the AddIn is looking for field names hardcoded in English...

I'm having the exact same issue. 

How do you make sure the display language of both are in English? I verified that English is the language using the Microsoft Office Language preferences tool under MS Office Tools. Are there other language settings I should look at?  mikkristiansen, have you been able to resolve this issue yet? If so, how?

According to the WBS Modeler User Guide, it is supposed to work with MS Project 2003 SP1 and above, so 2007 shouldn't be an issue. But that may be why the WBS Task View window is coming up blank after an import. 

I'm also having the same problem. I'm running 32 bit Visio 2010 Premium with 32 bit Project Professional 2010 on Windows 7 (64 bit). I can neither Import or Export from the WBS Modeler 2010 add-in for Visio. I'm also "English" language across the board in my entire Office 2010 Professional suite. Seeing that it's now June 2012, what's the answer to this problem?

Since the environment (products/levels) appears to be correct, I'd start by asking where the files are located; are they local to the client machine or on a network drive? Can you open the demo .mpp that was installed with Visio using the local copy of Project? Then attempt to open it with WBS.

Thanks for the response! The files are all local to my client machine.

The only demo.mpp file which I can find was in "My Documents/temp" (I've worked several years as a Windows applications developer, so I'm pretty sure I would be able to find any file hidden only on my PC). It has a November 2011 time/date stamp. I don't recognize it as something I created. It only has the following tasks:

Is this the file to which you might be referring? If so, it won't import via the Visio WBS Modeller import command.

You might check this thread, it suggests there might be some interaction with another Visio add-in (David Parker is the original author of the add-in).

The MPP file I was looking for is a building plan one that (I believe) David used for testing against. Obviously if the local Project can open the file, then the add-in should be able to since it executes the same same libraries. After that you get into the Trust Center in Visio setup and NT security.

I try to solve this issue and after days to try and read in google i found, the solution is install the english pack in both programs, project 2012 and visio 2010 then in the file options languaje select display languaje in english like default, restart the programs and then the funtion import works fine and is very good

I have the same problem, i have project professional 2010 (32), visio 2010 (32) and windows 7 (64), i installed NET 4.0,  (All mencioned in spanish) BUT IT DOESNT WORK, PLEASE HELP.

and you will find a microsoft acrticle about it, pretty much follow those steps listed

you will need to get a single language pack for English

then change your language as shown in the description of ms

I have a similar problem but not with all projects files, some of them are showed and some aren't

Try this technique. 

Dig up  an old project file in native MS Project 2003. Clear out the elements from the old file; delete them en masse.  Copy and paste your elements from your existing MS Project 2010 file to the 2003 file. Save that, and try to import that into Visio. 

I strongly suspect that, somewhere along the line, I updated the MS Project database. I either changed or deleted fields that this add-in needs. So the only way around this is to go all the way back to an old copy of the database, in an old file. Of course, you will need to replicate your WBS to that file, which is a royal pain. 

It worked for me. It may just work for you. 

Same issue in my company

No import and no export

 Visio 2010 pro x64 - MSP 2010 pro x64 WSB Modeler x64 on win 8.1 x64 system.

Solution is just simple : -> change system language to US or UK

 

Now its work fine ,but that cant be a the solution for a German employ

So I will try out to get a workaround
