Import Exchange 2010 Mailbox Database .edb into Exchange 2013
My Exchange 2010 server recently crashed I am in the process of setting up a new 2013 server. Is it possible to import the .edb file from my old server to the new server to recover the mailboxes?

Hi sapper,

Thank you for your question.

We could not mount the database to new server simply, because all services are still on Exchange 2010. So we could refer to the following link:

  1.        Perform disaster recovery by the following link: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd876880(v=exchg.141).aspx
  2.        Migrate Exchange 2010 to Exchange 2013 by the following link: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj898583(v=exchg.150).aspx

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

Hello Sapper

No, it is not possible to directly mount your database on a new server as your all services are still running on exchange 2010. But if you are having updated backup of your Exchange 2010 database, you can restore inaccessible mailboxes, else you need to recover Exchange 2010 and then migrate from Exchange 2010 to 2013.

But in case you are not having backup and want to save your time and efforts, it would be better to use a Professional software like Stellar Phoenix Mailbox Exchange Recovery, which not only restores mailboxes from corrupt edb file, but also allow users to export recovered files to live exchange mailbox - http://download.cnet.com/Stellar-Phoenix-Mailbox-Exchange-Recovery/3000-2369_4-10745362.html

I ended up using Kernel for Exchange Server to recover the mail boxes and export them to .pst files.

You could also look at this link http://www.msexchange.org/software/Backup-Recovery/Lepide-Exchange-Manager.html . It might be helpful to you regarding to import the .EDB file from old server to the new server and recover the mailboxes.

Glad you were able to get your issue resolved and;

Our DigiScope product would have actually let you Recover/Migrate that data directly from the offline 2010 EDB into the 2013 Exchange server.  This is much faster, more streamlined and more accurate than doing the PST export/shuffle

There are a handful of companies that have this type of tool and we are one of them, however be careful in the tool you pick since all tools are not created equally and if you choose a tool that is not accurate and complete you can end up with a serious mess.

The absolute worst issue is when a prospective customer calls and  tells us they used a low cost tool for recovery and they discovered the data is mangled and incomplete within their live exchange server.  So while price is IMHO always AN issue it should NEVER be THE issue.  Whatever tool you buy to access Offline Exchange Databases don't be lured in by the lowest priced product its just not
