Implementing a change to the default font used without modifying the default.dotm file

I have an interesting question, one that I am not sure if it is even possible to achieve.

Is it possible to change a users default font via group policy without changing/replacing the default.dotm file? The reason is that each user has a large amount of AutoText settings often 30+ per user which will get wiped if it is just replaced outright which will cause problems for each user.

Hi Dave,

Based on your description, you wanted to change the default font in Word via group policy.

As far as I know you can change default font by modifying Normal.dotm, because Default Font, Size and Margins these settings are stored in the normal.dotm file.

I suggest you refer to these blogs:

http://blogs.technet.com/b/odsupport/archive/2009/04/24/how-to-deploy-specific-fonts-in-office-2007.aspx

For the purpose of deploying these changes via group policy you will need to copy normal.dotm up to a share that as accessible to all users. But this method still doesn't get your result.

I knew of the normal.dotm method, but it is not an option for my environment, due in part to the in place AutoText additions that multiple users have.

Hi Dave,

I didn't find any information about how to use GOP to modify the default font in Word without changing the Normal.dotm. We can create a new Registry Item through a Registry GPO to prevent Word from overwriting the template.

You also can refer to this Blog, this post will detail the process of pushing UI changes out to your Office 2010 clients. But you also need to modify Normal.dotm file first.
