Exchange Search will not be able to index and search Microsoft Office 2007 attachments http://blogs.msdn.com/b/deva/archive/2010/11/17/search-amp-microsoft-filter-pack.aspx MCSE | MCITP - Server 2008 | MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCTS - Exchange 2010

Thanks for the updates. What other impacts will be there if we remove the filter pack? and also do we need to change the registry manually after removing or it will be done automatically once we remove?

Other impacts --> other than indexing attachments - which improves searches on mailboxes, nothing significant. To remove --> just go to add/remove programs and remove it, no need to manually remove registry. but once you remove it, indexing attachments will stop working and every time you run ExBPA health check it will ask you to install it. I personally suggest you keep it and if it is not install and you are not planning to upgrade to exchange 2010 soon and if you want to improve search result you might want to consider installing it.MCSE | MCITP - Server 2008 | MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCTS - Exchange 2010

We want to remove it as we dont use Desktop search and also day by day the size of file is getting increased and its throwing low disk space alerts. This filter pack will be useful only if we have the Windows desktop search facility. what else we can use to have the same search facility other than this filter pack?
