I removed a users mailbox and now cant create another one for the user.
Hi, i have a user who couldnt send or recieve mail from his mailbox as it was a legacy mailbox. the reason why it became legacy i dont really understand, but it became legacy after exchange upgrade from 2003 to 2010. All the other user's upgrades worked fine. I tried removing the mailbox. When i try to create a new mailbox for the existing user his account isn't available to connect to. I have read up on this and it appears that the mailbox i removed is still associated with the account. We have tried purging it, we have tried refreshing it and it does not appear in disconnected mailboxes. I have tried restarting the server and exchange services. Any ideas on how to create a mailbox for this existing user would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance! Shaun

"Remove" deletes the user account. "Disable" removes the mailbox but leaves the user account in place.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Shaun, 1. As this happened during the migration so seems to be the mentioned user mailbox got corrupted or damaged as you tried to delete as well. So what you can do first check whether all exchange related attributes got deleted for that particular user, you can check through ADSIEDIT if still its there. 2. What you can try else to delete the user account itself, why if during the migration or deletion users mailbox got screwed up and which is not properly deleted from the AD side, so once you will delete the user account then the linked exchange attributes will also delete, so you can give a try if possible and then create a new account and mailbox. Before doing this , just create a test account and mailbox to make sure you are abler to create the AD account and mailbox if yes then do that with the affected user. Check the below URL see if this helps. http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2006/10/13/3395089.aspx http://support.microsoft.com/kb/823170 Thanks

Thanks Amit79, I removed the user and recreated the account. I was thinking of doing that but there is a bit of pain recreating the security settings back to the users folders on the network and laptop. Oh, well. Thanks for you help! Shaun
