I receive some emails in my outlook 2013 desktop in chinese character, but in outlook.com it is in English, how to fix that?

Hello there,

I receive some emails in outlook 2013 desktop application in Chinese like characters. The same email is in English when I view it in outlook.com, therefore and between outlook.com and my desktop outlook 2013 something goes wrong that some emails appears in Chinese like characters. As a result, and whenever I receive a Chinese characters like emails, then I have to switch to Outlook.com to read the email.

Note to that, I have more than one outlook.com accounts, yet this problem occurs only on one email account.

How can I fix this, because I hardly use outlook.com and totally dependably on outlook 2013?

I would greatly appreciate help in this problem.

Thank you and

have a great weekend,

Regards,

Michael

Hi,

Please try opening a problematic email in Outlook, click Actions > Other Actions > Encoding, and then change the encoding to Unicode (UTF-8). If this would fix the issue, click Save button to save changes to the email and then close it.

If above doesn't fix the issue, please also try forward the email to yourself from Outlook.com and then view it in Outlook to see the result.

Please let me know the result.

Hi Steven,

The configuration analyzer did not Detect the problem and did not fix it. however, changing the encoding to UTF-8 did fix the problem, but I have to do this for each email that arrives with different encoding, is there a way to do it automatically?

Thank you for your help and have a great week.

Michael

Thank you for the update, Michael. I'm afraid there is no option to change the encoding automatically within Outlook. The encoding can only be controlled for outgoing emails via an option in Outlook:

You may try to find some third-party tool to check if it's possible to bulk change encoding for Outlook emails.
