I need advice....Multiple domains on Microsoft Exchange Server 2007
Hello, Please direct me to another forum in the even that I have posted this in the wrong location. I am the owner of a small business in which I employed a local tech company to install a Small Business Server 2008 and which also includes Microsoft Exchange 2007. They are still in the setup mode, but as first glance something does not seem right to me. So, I thought that I would ask here on this forum to see how such an application should be setup properly. As I mention, we have a small business. But, as many businesses, large and small, we host and receive email from a number of different domains each with a number of different email addresses. It was very easy to receive all of these emails from the different email addresses/domains. My computer techs now have our email services setup on our new server hosting MS Exchange 2007. It seems to me as though they set it up so that ALL incoming emails to any of these domains get deposited into one large "inbox" on the server. Then when they are pushed out to my Outlook client, they are sorted into folders by using appropriate rules in Outlook...There are a number of reasons that I say this... First, when I send an email, I am to choose what email account it should send "Send From". I am able to choose any of the email addresses that I had prior to the move. And then I need to choose "Send Using". But the "Send Using" only allows me to choose from my main email address or my hotmail address. I am not able to Send Using the actual email address itself....Second, I am trying to setup these email addresses up on a mobile device connected to my Exchange Server. It retrieves emails, but those only from the main email account. Not the account that I setup. Third, OWA only shows emails from my main account. I am not able to send from the other email accounts using OWA. I know that they modified the MX addresses of each of my domains (4 of them) to point toward my server. But, it seems to me that each of these domains should have a "inbox" on the server. The emails should come in to the server and kept separated by email address/domain and then pushed out the my Outlook (or other) client. Am I missing something? I can not believe that a number of domains can't be setup to receive emails from a number of differnent addresses for each domain and all kept separate. I would sure appreciate an opinion from a third party as to how this type of setup with multiple domains and multiple email addresses for each domain should properly be setup... Thank you very much for your review and advice! Regards, Mike

Hello Mkalavitz, If I understand correctly you have a multiple "accepted domains" which is what you require and email policies have been setup so that each user who has a mailbox has several email addresses, otherwise known as email aliases. This article should be a useful read on understanding how your 3rd party company have set it up... http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996314(EXCHG.80).aspx It sounds like you need to amend your email policies so that certain groups of individuals are entitled to use specific domains. In the below link look for the section headed Creating a new E-mail Address Policy and specifically figure 5 which focuses on conditions of the policy which allow you the option to define who should receive the email addresses. http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/management-administration/managing-email-address-policies.html Kind Regards
