I have removed the password on an 2013 Excel workbook but it still says it's reserved by me and asks for a password how do I remove this?

I have Excel 2013 and I removed the password in the file tab under protect workbook but when I try to send my workbook to someone else it says it is reserved by me and still asks for the password. I have removed dashes and slashes from the title.

What do I do?

Hi jeskaesmith,

According to your description, it seems that there are two different passwords here.

  1. When you open a workbook and are asked for a password that is the password which locks the file from being opened without the file password.
  2. When you password protect a worksheet for forms, that is an independent password that locks cells based on the locked property of the cells on the worksheet.

So even though you entered the password to open the workbook, you still need to enter the (probably different) password to unlock the worksheet.

First please check have you ever set a password when saving the file. If you did, please go to File- Save As- Tools- General Options, and remove the password.

If it doesnt work, please try this method, Go to File- Info- Protect Workbook- Encrypt with Password. Then remove the password if any -leave the record empty and save the file to check the issue.

Hope its helpful.
