I can't defrag...
I tried to do a defrag on my system, Windows XP Pro, but I continue to get the same error message...
Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume (C). Please run Chkdsk/f
So then I try to chkdsk /f and get the following message...
Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? Y/N
I then select "Y" and reboot and get a message stating that I canceled when I didn't touch anything.
I also got a message stating that my "F parameters are not specified". But I can't remember where I was in the messwhen I got that message.
I cannot backup
I cannot restore
My internet icon does not appear in sys tray at connection
I do not have the option to disconnect from the internet when I right click on desktop icon
I have disable all services except MS
I have ran SpyBot
I have tried to do the above in Safe Mode
Someone told me I'm about to lose my HD and I refuse to accept that
I have disabled my norton.
Can anyone please help solve this mystery?

Update...
I figured how to get my system to defrag.
I booted from cd running a repair...
Once I got to the comand prompt came up I typed in chkdsk and it actually worked from there.
Iwas then able to do a defrag.
Now if I could just figure out why I can't do a backup and...
why my internet icon doesn't go into the taskbar or have an option to disconnect at right click, I would be doing great!!!
