IIS Troubles with Exchange 2010
I am trying to modify Exchange on a 2011 SBS Server and have run into troubles with IIS. The starting point: Exchange was running but only stored email, calendar and contact information. All email is received to individual Outlook accounts via pop. There is a website with http and https pages hosted on this server. The domain is different from the email domain. A third party security certificate was purchased for the https pages. We had a great deal of troubles getting this to work in IIS, in particular with the https pages. Exchange Management Console would not open. Step 1 To get the Exchange Management Console to open I added a binding for the server.domain.local to the default web site in IIS over port 80. This worked and I was able to open the Exchange Management Console. I configured Exchange to accept mail from the mail domain and successfully sent mail. Step 2 We then flipped the MX record to receive mail. No joy. Attempts to send mail returned a 421 4.3.2 Service not available error. Attempted to run through the SBS wizard to "Set up your Internet address". It errored off but did make several changes to IIS first. Among other things it created a new SSL certificate for remote.domain.com. It also changed the bindings in IIS. I can no longer open Exchange Management Consol the error is now "the attempt to connect to http://sever.domain.local/PowerShell using "Kerberos" authentication failed: Connecting to the remote server failed with the following error message: The connection to the specified remote host was refused." I have run the EMTshooter troubleshooter. The results are: Welcome to the Exchange Management Troubleshooter! We recommend that you run the troubleshooter after making changes to IIS to ensure that connectivity to Exchange Powershell is unaffected. Checking IIS Service... Checking the Exchange Install Path variable... Checking the Powershell Virtual Directory... Checking the Powershell vdir SSL setting... Checking the Powershell vdir path setting... Checking HTTP Port 80... Checking HTTP Port 80 Host Name... Testing for errors... VERBOSE: Connecting to server.domain.local [server.domain.local] Connecting to remote server failed with the following error message : The connection t + CategoryInfo : OpenError: (System.Manageme....RemoteRunspace:RemoteRunspace) [], PSRemotingTransportExcep + FullyQualifiedErrorId : PSSessionOpenFailed The Exchange Management Troubleshooter successfully completed connecting to: server.domain.local Failed to connect to any Exchange Server in the current site. Problem found: Looking for error... After each error is resolved, close this window and re-run the tool to check for additional problems. I'm still essentially where I was at the beginning. Exchange is still running and Outlook clients can attach to it. It will not receive email and the Management Console won't open. I've tried various other troubleshooting steps but nothing has made a difference. I'm running out of ideas. Any suggestions?

Exchange no longer uses IIS for SMTP, but I'm not sure what the SBS wizard does. You really ought to ask your question in the SBS forum because most of those wizards are specific to SBS and aren't part of Exchange.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

When in doubt reboot. I was afraid that a reboot might make matters worse but decided to take the risk. It cleared the issue with the Management Console. So now I can get into the Management Console. Still getting the 421 4.3.2 Service not available error though:(
