IE looks to local domain rather than internet
So I'm running Windows server 2k3 x64 and for all intents and purposes, lets say my domain isnamed apples.com Our website is also named apples.com and is hosted externally on brinkster, rather than locally on our servers. When I point a browser on our domain apples.com to http://www.apples.com, the browser looks for that website locally, rather than on brinkster. How do I ensure that the browser will look outside my local domain for the website? I'm having the same problem with Outlook - mail.apples.com is not locally stored, yet Outlook looks to my domain apples.com for it. Help!!! and thank you for any help you may be able to offer!

Hi, Create awww A record in your internal DNS server using the external IP address and the users shouls find your external website - same goes for the mail record. Leif

I think you may also have a problem with DNS forwarders, your DNS server needs to be recursive and have the correct forwarding address (normally the IP address of your ISP's DNS server) to look up external sites. Hope this helps BBV

Hi, You will never be able to get name resolution to work when your internal domain name is the same as the external domain name unless you add the external DNS records to the internal DNS server. Leif
