IE7 Helpppp
Hello, I have Windows Server 2003 running on the network. Up until now, we have been using IE6 to access the desktop. To do this users type "Desktop" into the address bar, and all their drives are displayed. Users don't have access to "My Computer" or even the desktop which is why it's needed to access it this way. When i upgraded the version of internet explorer to version 7, this "Desktop" shortcut is no longer allowed. When users attempt to access their desktop an error box pop's up "The "Desktop" resource has been disallowed". Can anyone offer me a solution on how to sort this problem? If not, my only option is to downgrade the versions of internet explorer to 6. Thanks, Nick

Well when you type "Desktop" it behaves the same way how a command does on the run window. And since you have not given the rights to those users to access their desktop, thus they are getting this error "The "Desktop" resource has been disallowed", as they dont have enough permission. As you want the users to access certain network drives (which assume are shared drives), so they can enterthe IP address or the name of the server. Else you can also create a host entry Go to this location C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and open the hosts file with notepad At the end of that file, there would be some entries like: 127.0.0.1 localhost Create a new entry over there, which contains the IP adress of the drives and then the name desktop Thus it should look like:127.0.0.1 localhost xx.xx.xx.xx desktop Now open IE, and type //desktop and check if it works. hosts is a local DNS, any network request would be first checked with this file, if the request is not resolved over here then the request is passed to the network DNS. Thus creatinga entry over here would force the request to be addressed over here
