HyperV 2008r2 sp1 and exchange on dynamic disks
Hi All, With regards to the improvements in dynamic disk handling with hyperv 2008r2 sp1, can I run exchange on dynamic disks. 1) Is it not recommended and the reasoning for this? 2) What could go wrong appart from maybe running out of space? 3) Could it corrupt exchange? 4) Does anybody else run exchange on dynamic disks without any problems? Thanks!

Just to update: I have converted my disks to fixed disks as I could not wait for an answer. I am still looking for an answer on my question though as I have more exchange servers to convert.

hi, Sorry, can you tell me that what's your requirement? i reread your case, i think you want to install exchange in hpye-v which is using dynamic disks,is it right? If it is, i think you can install exchange on it. In my lab, all exchange is installed in hpye-v by using dynamic disks. hope can help you thanks,CastinLu TechNet Community Support

I am busy coverting some exchange servers we host (2003\2007\2010) from ESX vmdk to HyperV 2008 R2 SP1. After the conversion (disk2vhd tool) the disks are Dynamic and even though I know it works I wanted to know: With regards to the improvements in dynamic disk handling with hyperv 2008r2 sp1, can I run exchange on dynamic disks. 1) Is it not recommended and the reasoning for this? 2) What could go wrong appart from maybe running out of space? 3) Could it corrupt exchange? 4) Does anybody else run exchange on dynamic disks without any problems? In the meantime I have converted to fixed disk as I could not get a clear answer in time.
