Hybrid Exchange and Archive Outlook Access

Greetings!

I am facing a problem, I hope you can help me.

We have as an e-mail solution, a hybrid configuration of Exchange Online and Exchange 2013.

Our Office365 plan is E4, so we do have archive feature.

When an Exchange Online user, mine for example, has enabled Archive, the archive folder in:

OWA: appears OK
Individual OUTLOOK: OK appears (Microsoft Outlook 2013 (15.0.4420.1017) MSO (15.0.4420.1017) 32-bit)
OUTLOOK downloaded in Office365 package: does not appear (Microsoft Outlook 2013 (15.0.4727.1000) MSO (15.0.4727.1001) 64-bit)

But when the user is an Exchange user OnPremises (2013), the archive appears in all circumstances.

I'm still doing more testing, with mailbox users hosted on the exchange onpremises and different versions of Outlook, but what we need to solve is:

Exchange Online users need to access the Archive using Outlook that is offered by the portal Office365, that is not working.

Has anyone experienced this situation or does suggest some more test before contacting Microsoft technical support?

Already checked this link, and didnt find any restriction:
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/clients-and-devices-in-exchange-online-archiving.aspx

I thank you in advance.

Our Plan is E4.

Rerforcing... In OWA the Archive runs OK, in Outlook stand alone runs OK, it only doesnt work in the Outlook that comes in the office package downloaded from O365.

That second Link:

https://support.office.com/en-ie/article/License-requirements-for-Personal-Archive-and-retention-policies-72a5ab80-2765-4004-9c23-0d35acfe45e0?CorrelationId=3c5b1c1f-ffaa-49e9-8525-d3237ccc5545&ui=en-US&rs=en-IE&ad=IE

It says about Outlook Retail, Outlook Volume but dowst say about Outlook downloaded from Office 365.

I didnt find one specific from Office365.

One thing I noticed is that imediatelly after Office installation (downloaded from O365 Portal), the Archive folder appears, but with same content of online. After a little time, it disappears.

Thanks.

Hi Fabio,

As you said that One thing I noticed is that immediately after Office installation (downloaded from O365 Portal), the Archive folder appears, but with same content of online. After a little time, it disappears.

Did you test this issue on different clients to check if the issue persist.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Best Regard,

Jim

Yes, the problem is the same from other users.

But I have more news...

Same client version downloaded from office365 portal, at home (out of domain), the archive folder worked okay.

So I tried into the domain network... the same computer that archive doesnt work, I logged locally as Administrator and create a outlook profile to the same user and it worked okay!

So, the scope of the problem changes now, the problem only occurs when logged into domain.

Maybe any GPO blocking outlook archiving?

Follow the results of one problematic user.

I noticed that the atributes AchiveStatus e ArchiveRelease esto differents.

O tried the archive in that second user, in the same conditions from the fist user that doesnt work.

Until now its okay. I am suspecting that the problem is the ArchiveStatus attribute.  How I can anable that?

If i disable and reenable archive, do I lose the contentes?

Look this thread:

"According to the information you provided, the issue may occur if the online archive is not set up correctly ( the status is not active and the attribute is not set). To solve the issue, I suggest you first remove the online archive, then re-enable it to re-provision the service. Sorry for the inconvenience may cause by the issue."

Hi Fabio,

When we disable online archive, all information in the archive will be kept in the mailbox database until the mailbox retention time passes the online archive is permanently deleted. Because we will enable online archive after disable, the email content will not be lost.

If there are any questions regarding this issue, please be free to let me know.

Jim

Hi Jim!

Good to hear!

Just to confirm: is it valid to Exchange Online into Office365 too, isnt it?

Thanks!

So, I disabled archive and reenabled it. The content was not lost.

The "ArchiveStatus" that before was "None" now is "Active", but the behaviour is the same. No archive appears in Outlook, just in OWA.

The problem persists.

Any more idea?

Thanks in advance.

1) OnPremises Exchange: Enable-RemoteMailbox username -archive
2) Forced a DirSync sync
--> At this point, when I run get-mailbox username | fl Arch* in cloud, anything was changed.

3) OnPremises Exchange: Disable-RemoteMailbox username -archive
4) Forced a DirSync sync
--> At this point, when I run get-mailbox apassos | fl Arch* in cloud, there were no archive enabled

5) In cloud, tried to run: Enable-Mailbox username archive
--> At this point, i got error: The following error occurred during validation in agent 'Windows LiveId Agent': 'Can't enable the archive for 'username' because their primary mailbox is located on an on-premises server. To enable a cloud-based archive mailbox for this user, you must use your on-premises Exchange admin center or Exchange Management Shell.'

6) In ADUC: Change msExchRemoteRecipientType atribute from 20 to 4
7) Forced a DirSync sync and coulndt reactivate archive, same error of step 5

8) Change msExchRemoteRecipientType atribute from 4 to <not set>
9) Forced a DirSync sync and coulndt reactivate archive, same error of step 5

10) Change msExchRemoteRecipientType atribute from <not set> to 3
