I have a basic SBS 2008 server (the only one on the network) running. I am not sure if I have a Hub/Edge Server running. Do I need to configure one on the same platform?Many thanks for your time.

Do I need to configure one on the same platform? If SBS 2008 runs Exchange 2007 then you already have a Hub Transport server. You'd have to take you question about the Edge role to the SS forum.
