I haven't personally seen anything on the log files, although i've never had a reason to look at them. What info are you trying to get outof them?As far as monitoring mail activity, you can use permonance monitor, but it is a little clumsy. MOM is a much better option.

Dear customer: Thanks for knightly. What version is your Exchange server? What type log do you want to view? In Exchange server, there are many log files. For example, in Exchange 2003, there are IIS log, SMTP log, message tracking log and application log, also you can check performance counter log. If you setup Exchange server on a cluster, you should check cluster log and etc. Since most of these logs are based on text, you can user text editor to open it, such as Notepad. According to your second issue, if your Exchange server is 2003, you can use Performance Monitor to check the relative counter according to your requirements. 1. Open the Performance Monitor on the Exchange server. 2. Select SMTP Server object in the "Performance object" list. 3. Select the corresponding instance such as SMTP 1. 4. In the counters list, select the following counters to monitor: Messages Received Total, Messages Receiver/sec, Messages Sent Total, Messages Sent/sec, Messages Bytes Total, Messages Bytes Total/sec , and anything else you think necessary. Hope it helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know. Rock Wang - MSFT
