How to troubleshoot pickup directory processing - Exch 2007
I've got an Exchange 2007 Hub Transport / Mailbox server that's suddenly stopped processing the pickup directory for no apparent reason. The .eml files just sit there. I've turned up the logging on the pickup process and restarted the transport service but nothing shows up in the log. I've not done much work with the pickup directory (as you'll see by my comments) You could try enabling diagnostic logging: Get-EventLogLevel "MSExchange TransportService\TransportService" | Set-EventLogLevel -Level Expert What happens if you: · Stop the transport service · Remove all the .eml files. · Start the service · Place a new .eml file in the directory ( maybe there is a bad file?) I've already done all that. The server supports a critical app, so I can't reboot it during the day. Right now, the plan is to wait until 5:00, then stop the transport service and delete the Pickup folder, then reboot the server and see if it creates a new one. If that works I'll drop in a test message and see if that gets processed, and go from there.[string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

C:\>get-transportserver <munge> | fl *pickup* | clip and I get: PickupDirectoryMaxHeaderSize : 64KB PickupDirectoryMaxMessagesPerMinute : 100 PickupDirectoryMaxRecipientsPerMessage : 100 PickupDirectoryPath : C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Se rver\TransportRoles\Pickup [string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

That sounds like a good plan; though the behavior is to ignore bad messages anyway. Can you verify the messages are within the parameters of the get-transportserver output? Did you say that you created a new .eml file in notepad and it wasn’t processed either? Is there file-level antivirus on this server that could be temporarily disabled to rule it out? The AV should be excluding those folders, but I'll double check it. I think I can rule out malformed messages. I just copied the first message in that folder to the pickup directory on another HT server and it was immediately delivered.[string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

Still no luck. Fortunately the emails that are being dropped there are for archival purposes, so I can get by with using a scheduled task to copy them to another pickup folder periodically until I can get it sorted out.[string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

Hi, Does the lower space cause this issue? How about renaming the PickUp folder? A new one will be created automatically. If the issue persists, you can use Set-TransportServer to set the new path for the Pickup folder, then check this issue. Thanks Allen Allen Song

Allen, I think above he already deleted the folder. Something else thought of was to disable and re-enable the pickup directory. this can be done by setting PickupDirectoryPath to $null Mike Crowley Check out My Blog!
