How to set up linked mailbox in multiple domain environment
Hi, I have my exchange server in my resource forest, and have a separate account forest. I did set up one way forest trust between them. In account forest, I have two domains: one is parent domain and the other is child domain. I was able to create linked mailbox on exchange server for the users in my parent domain. However, I do not know how to create linked mailboxes for my child domain. I could not see the users when I tried to create linked mailboxes for them. I do not have to use linked mailbox if there is another way to allow the users in my child domain be able to connect to my exchange server.

If you have a separate forest then you will have to create users in your primary forest, then granted the accounts in the separate forest Full Mailbox and Send As permissions. Simon.Simon Butler, Exchange MVP Blog | Exchange Resources | In the UK? Hire Me.

hi, here is an article about linked mailbox setting; http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb123524.aspx http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/4665b4b2-5d64-46d2-974c-428ef6cac17c regards, Mumin CICEK | www.cozumpark.com | Please click Vote As Helpful if it is helpful for you and Propose as Answer!!!

Thanks Sembee and Mumin for your replies. Sembee, what do you mean the primary forest? Do you mean I need to create users in my exchange forest and grant fullmailbox and send As permissions to user in my account forest? In my case, I have two forests, say exchangeforest.test and accountforest.test. In account forest, I have a parent domain and a child domain. Let's assume they are accountforest.test and child.accountforest.test. I set up one-way trust from exchangeforest.test to accountforest.test. According to my understanding, forest trust is transitive. So exchangeforest.test will trust child.accountforest.test. For users in accountforest.test, I was able to create linked mailbox on exchange server by following http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998031%28v=EXCHG.140%29.aspx. However, I could not create linked mailbox for the users in child.accountforest.test because I could not see the users from exchange GUI when I tried to create a linked mailbox. Mnmin, thanks for the links. I will try to see whether it is possible to create linked mailboxes through exchange powershell.
