How to set up imap account only to receive without outgoing configuration

Guys I need to download old messages from our old email provider that's on the cloud.

Today I'm using Exchange but still there are old messages in the cloud that I need to download and save to a PST, but the outgoing server is not the web provider so when I try to set up an IMAP account into Outlook it fails when it tries to send the test message (and its suppose to fail) and I cannot proceed and finish setting up.

What should I do to configure the IMAP account without sending a test me

When you setup the account in Outlook, use the Internet E-mail Settings option.  There is a spot to setup an incoming mail server and an outgoing mail server.  Use the old cloud account in the incoming mail server and use a Google or Hotmail or whatever account as your Outgoing account.  Then, click the More Settings button.  There will be a tab for authentication where you can put in the credentials for the Outgoing account.

That might get you past this test and allow you to get the mail.

Is there a possibility to configure additional Outlook profile with settings required by external provider either as POP3 or IMAP?
On the other hand, what happens if you just confirm existing settings "as is" ? As far as I can recall, sending test message successfully is not required to finish the configuration of the client, just an option to be sure SMTP settings are correct.

Guys, thank you very much. I did what Charles said, I configured another outgoing settings. I used my exchange settings to pass by the send test.

Thank you.
