How to set up 2007 Edge Nic cards
I have an Edge Transport Server that is dedicated for this role. It has no other software on it and is not part of our domain. I have two NIC's in it because that was the recommendation by Microsoft. I NIC has a IP of 172.16.x.x that is on the local private scheme. The other NIC should have a IP of what? We own a Static IP of 66.76.63.54 and have a 3 party Firewall that has this IP on it. The Firewall Company is freaking out that we want to be able to hit this server from the outside. What should the IP be on the second NIC?What does it mean to point it externally?

I have two NIC's in it because that was the recommendation by Microsoft. Where did you find this "recommendation"? I have not seen it written on any official site and I do not believe this is required for such a role. ISA perhaps, but I cannot see the added benefit to the Edge Transport role. Here is an example of where it is used, but again, I wouldnt deem this necessary. Hi,To deploy the Edge Transport Server with two NIC cards is just onebest practiceto proctect the security of Exchange server if not firewall in there. There is no neccessary to do this operation if third party Firewall already was placed there.ThanksAllen
