How to search for data in closed .csv files?

I have hundreds of .csv files that contain lots of data and i was wondering if it is possible to search for specific word all .csv files without opening them?

Thanks!

You can do this without Excel - only with Windows. Which version do you use?

Some hints for XP: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/309173

Windows 7 already does indexing for csv files as you can verify by running "Indexing Options".

Thanks, but I mean to find a text inside the .csv files not in the file names.

The Windows Index Service finds text inside the files as well. Just try it.

I realise your post is 2 years old, but if you are still needing to search multiple csv files I have an application designed to do that.

It will search a folder (and sub folders) for csv files, then search inside each csv file for the search criteria.
Results are then displayed as tabulate tables, with the option to save or copy the results, or open the parent file.

The utility is free. I have used it for over a year now, and I would not be without it.

I can send you a download link if you are still interested.

Nope, this is a lie.  You should be fired.

Another lie.  This is potentially actionable.
