How to restore contacts & calendar? 2010

So I have a user who uses Outlook 2010. He does not use an exchange email, just an old school IMAP from an external host. His Outlook took a dump and would not even launch. I went into mail in the control panel, deleted the profile and created a new one, then after opening Outlook and letting all of his email re-sync, I imported all of his .pst files. I just notcied that Outlook 2010 does not use .nk2 files and the like anymore.

What files in his C$\Users\&username&\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook folder keep his Contacts and Calendar and how do I re-import them into Outlook 2010?

Thanks!

None in that location. By default Outlook 2010 creates user-data pst-files (so not used for caching) in the user's "My Documents\Outlook files" folder.

You can connect to it via; File-> Open-> Outlook Data File...

When I go File-> Open-> Outlook Data File it opens a folder that does show a .pst file but when I double click it, still nothing gets added to their contacts or calendar. I now have this problem with 4 users. All had loads of contacts and calendar appointments.

The items will be in a separate pst-file (the one you just added to Outlook). You can see it more easily when you switch to the Folder List Navigation (CTRL+6).

You can use File-> Account Settings-> Account Settings...-> tab Data Files to set this data files as the default. Another method would be to move the items manually but that wouldn't be an actual restore of their data (just like importing isn't either).

I've tried that on 2 of the users and when I ctrl+6 and view the calendar/contacts, they are blank.

Any other ideas I can try?

I also see some ost files, what are those? They are HUGE files, I think I need to import those too but I can't figure out how..

If they are empty, you might be working with the wrong file. How big is it?

Ost-files are cache files from Exchange and Hotmail Connector accounts. They cannot be restored without having access to the original Exchange or Hotmail account or by using a 3rd party recovery application.
