You need to use ADSIEDIT to do this. It is installed as a part of the support tools found on the windows 2003 cd. Run ADSIEDT.MSC on a DC Expand: +Configuration Container|_CN=Configuration, DC=Domain_Name,DC=com |_CN=Services |_CN=Microsoft Exchange |_CN=Your_Organization_Name |_CN=Administrative Groups |_CN=Your_Administrative_Group_Name |_CN=Servers Select the server object you want to remove from AD & Delete it. Be 100% sure to delete the correct server object as this action is only reverseable by performing an authoritative restore of AD.

Yes there is a risk of deleting this object if you ever expect that exchange server to come back online. however, if you do not expect this & wish to format & recycle that server completely thenI dont think you have anything to worry about here. I would say that if it has been offline for 2 years with no problems then there is no need to bring that server up as exchange again so you shouldnt have any adverse effects coming from "cleaning up" its AD objects.
