How to remove an Exchange Server 2007 that has been deleted from the organization
After moving the mailboxes and roles from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2010 the server that had Exchange 2007 on it was reformatted. No public folder replication happened. The actual server is still listed in AD. I would like to remove the server from AD, the no longer existent Exchange Server 2007 from AD and the organization and point the OAB to the Exchange 2010 server. Could someone help shed some light on the proper steps to do this? Any help is appreciated.

Reinstall the Exchange software with the /Disasterrecovery switch. Move whatever you need to other servers, then uninstall the Exchange software. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Thank you for the reply Rich. My challenge there is that I no longer have the physical server to reinstall anything on. I just have the object listing in AD. I would like to completely remove any reference to the old Exchange 2007 server and only have the Exchange 2010 server. What will happen if I delete the server object that Exchange 2007 was on from AD? The server that the object is referring to is physically gone.

You don't need *the* server, you just need a machine named the same. >I just have the object listing in AD. The only supported way to do that is by uninstalling the server. >What will happen if I delete the server object that Exchange 2007 was on from AD? It will disappear -- but what other objects in the organization refer to the one you just ripped out? >The server that the object is referring to is physically gone. So use a desktop machine. It's not going to be participating in the delivery of messages and it'll ony be present for as long as it takes to uninstall it. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP
