Dear Guys, We have Exchange 2007, CA Role on8.0(CASRV)& SCC Mailbox role on 8.0(MAILBOXSRV), accidentally MAILBOXSRV was killed and was the role was never uninstalled properly. So we decided to make a new SCC Mailbox on 8.1 - Exchange 2007 SP1 (MBX2). It was connected properly, however, I cannot remove the dead MAILBOXSRV on the list of mailbox servers. It says database is still there, which is quite impossible since its dead. So how do i solve this? I have been searching it here but no luck. Hi, Search AD for users with mailboxes on the dead server and remove these mailboxes and it should be possible to remove the database. Leif

I also have a similar issue. Is there a simple way to just remove this non existing server from the console? I tried removing the machine from active directory but still shows up in the exchange management console. Thank you

Its not suggested way but if nothing can be done then you can try by deleting it in configuration partition through ADSIEdit.msc, while doing that be careful it may give some other errors and we don't have any article from MS like for 2003 we have.

Dear Admins, Are there any other ways of forcefully removing the dead mailbox? As Leif has suggested, i tried looking for users on AD that is still connected to the dead mbx. And no one was connected. Regards, Joel

I agreed with Amit Tank thread! However, you can still check whether any mailboxes are associated with dead server mailbox store or not using ADSIEdit.msc in configuration partition in properties of mailbox store and check the attribute homeMDBBL, and see whether any mailboxes are there or not?

I believe this is useful. Install ADSI Edit. Launch ADSI Edit. To do this, click Start, click Run, type adsiedit.msc in the text box, and then click OK. Locate the Exchange server object by going to the following location: CN=Configuration, DC= Domain Name, DC=com, CN=Services, CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN=<Organization Name>, CN=Administrative Groups, CN= <Exchange Administrative Group>, CN=Servers, CN=<Server Name>. Delete the server object. Remove the Exchange server's machine account from Security groups Exchange Servers and Exchange Install Domain Servers
