How to remove EX 2010 mailcontacts? (already delete the AD directory object which the mail contact points to)
Dear all,
we accidently remove 5 contact from ActiveDirectory. Now we wanted to remove the corresponding mailcontacts in exchange. If we carry on deleting on the Exchange 2010 Server we get the message that the mailcontact cannot be deleted because the object could
not be found on the domain controller.
This is true because we already deleted the AD object. recreating the object with the same name does not help. is there any chance to force the reomval of the exchange mail contact? or do i have a change to use adsiedit and find this object somewhere in
AD and delete it with no further complications?
Thx for answering

If you delete an object from AD it should also remove it from Exchange. It might still appear in the Exchange Management Console but after replication takes place it should disappear from the console.
I have tested this with a mailbox and that was the outcome. The mail contact should work the same way.MCITP: Enterprise Messaging Administrator 2007/2010 | MCITP: Server Administrator | MCTS: Windows Server 2008 Applications Infrastructure, Configuring | MCP | MCDST

Agree with Tom, You must wait for some time and can reboot your DC which is being use by exchange 2010 to see updates.Anil

Hi,
Yes, Tom is right. You have to ensure the replication is normal among the Domain Controllers.

Just to add, you might still the contacts it in Outlook until the Office Address Book is rebuild, so unless you force it to be rebuilt early then it might take until the next day to take effect.
Also bear in mind there may be problems mailing these contacts when re-created by Outlook clients who have the addresses stored in the Nickname cache (i.e. they emailed them before).
You can get round this by adding the old LegacyExchangeDN as an additional email address of type X500 to each contact.
