How to make global changes to some Exchange features?
Hi We have an Exchange 2003 standard edition and I’m wanting to make changes for all to some Exchange features. The features are Outlook mobile access, user initiated synchronization and up to date notifications. I want to disable these features We have over 200 users listed in AD and it would be a painfully long process to do this individually. Is there a way to do this by way of power shell or?? Thanks, Tracy

Go to ESM-global settings-Mobile Services-right click on mobile services-properties-uncheck the Outlook mobile access, user initiated synchronization and up to date notifications & apply the same. it will disable these services..Regards, Ajaj Desai (India)

Agree with Simon, ADmodify will be usefull for this as its exchange 2003 where we can not play with power shell :) If you want to disable it for whole ORG then you should Go to ESM-global settings-Mobile Services (As suggested by Ajay). But if want to disbale it for some bulk users then you should use ADModify suggested by Simon above. Anil

Hi, First THANKS VERY MUCH to all who responded! >Go to ESM-global settings-Mobile Services-right click on mobile services-properties-uncheck the Outlook mobile access, user initiated synchronization and up to date notifications & apply the same. it will disable these services.. I’m sorry to have to follow this up with a couple of dumb questions. If I disable per your description, can I then turn these services on, on a per-user basis? Will this have any impact on Outlook Anywhere? (Outlook by way of rpc over http)? Related to that, is it possible to generally disable Outlook Anywhere but selectively permit specific users to use Outlook Anywhere? Thanks once again! Regards, Tracy Lebenzon

That is an all or nothing setting. If you want per user then you need to disable it as per my answer. Outlook Anywhere/RPC over HTTPS is not affected by that setting. If you want to control who can use that feature then you will have to deploy ISA server in front of Exchange. It cannot be enabled/disabled on a per user basis with Exchange 2003. Thank you for for clarifying! Okay so turning to the ADModify tool. I ran a test and tried to modify the attributes of a user. I started the program, selected modify attributes and drilled down to my test user. Once there I went into the Exchange features Tab and found that there was a section called "OMA Settings" I would upload a screen shot of this page but don't knw how to do that with this forum's software. Once I got to the Exchange Features page I tried a couple of things and then selected the "Go!" button. The program said it made a change and then exited. When i looked at the account in AD there were no changes made. What am I missing? Thanks for your continuing support! Tracy Lebenzon

The trick to get the ADModify to work on my XP desktop was found by following this guide: http://www.dovestones.com/support/Exchange2003/ Once that was done I was able to change the OMA related attributes in groups. The way of implementing the change a little unobvious. What worked was to select the checkmark to identify the specific feature set and then hit okay leaving the specific features unchecked. The program correctly inferred this meant to set the features to disabled. Worked great! Thanks for the guidance.
