How to import nk2 files into Outlook 2013 from Outlook 2007

I want to import OUTLOOK.NK2 from Outlook 2007 into Outlook 2013 on Win7 Pro.

What I have been doing previously is copying the NK2 from the source folder on XP into
Win7 - Userprofile\appdata\roaming\microsoft\outlook.

But since there is no NK2 file used in Outlook 2013 (as I understand) I have been doing this incorrectly.  I found a Microsoft kb 2806550 that explains how to import the NK2 into 2013.

It says to copy the NK2 file into the %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook folder.  "In the Open box, type outlook.exe /importnk2, and then click OK. This should import the .nk2 file into the Outlook 2013 profile."

It is my understanding the Autofill/Autocomplete File for 2013 is located here-
\userprofile\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\RoamCache Stream_Autocomplete_****

I have the OUTLOOK.NK2 file in the %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook folder.  In Win7 at the Search programs and files dialog box I enter outlook.exe /importnk2 <enter>.

Outlook opens, but does not appear the import took place.

Can someone clearly define how the process should work?

The nk2 file name has to match the outlook profile name exatly.

Go to control panel > mail > show profiles and check what your profile name is.

Then rename your nk2 file to match.

Make sure your nk2 file is in the %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook folder.

Then click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type outlook.exe /importnk2 and press enter.

Hi DDaleS,

I just tried importing a .NK2 file into my Outlook, Outlook was opened and there was no importing process, either. However, this doesn't mean that the importing process must be failed. To verify if the .NK2 file is imported correctly, we can navigate to %appdata%\Microsoft\Outlook folder and check if the .NK2 file is renamed to Outlook.NK2.old. We can also try creating a new email message and check if the autocomplete feature works.

Steve,

I checked the name of the NK2 file it was not the same name as the profile.  I renamed the NK2 to the same name as the Outlook profile.  Ran the command again (with Outlook closed) and it appears to have worked - at least to the point that the missing addresses from the 2007 Outlook NK2 are now showing up.

However, the NK2 file did not get renamed to *.OLD.

But for now the user is happy with the results.

If I understand correctly, the autocomplete email addresses are now cached in users\username\appdata\local\Microsoft\Outlook\Roamcache\Stream_Autocomplete...

Is that correct?  And no more NK2 used?

Thanks.
