How to give access to specific folder
Hello, I got an office network environment. I got say 6 PC which are a part of a network and got a stand alone computer. I need to share one of the shared drive on the network with this stand alone computer. I think i need to make this PC a part of this network or need to VPN into the network but just wondering if there is any better way to do this job? Thanks

Not sure if I really understand what you mean. In general, it's best to share folders on a server. Most of the time it is also a better idea to use domain-joined clients in a office environment. Anyhow, this forum is dedicated to Exchange Server administration. You should post your question to for instance: Windows 7 Networking http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itpronetworking/threadsMCTS: Messaging | MCSE: S+M

Hi The stand alone computer must be the part of network. Then other computer can access the folder.

Hello Terence, It is actually the other way around. the stand alone computer needs access to a specific folder on the shared drive on network. I think using VPN or making it a part of network should work. Just wondering, there should be another way ?? Thanks.

For confirmation you should ask in the correct forum as suggested by Jon. You can try this. If the standanlone PC is on the same subnet, then you should be prompted when trying to acces the folder if you use \\ipaddress\sharname Then you can enter the credentials (domain if trying to access shared folder on domaon or local credentials if accessing shared folder on standalone).Sukh
