How to get rid of malfunctioned ex server?
Hi there, I tried to install Ex2007 sp1 trial and faild then i tried to install ex2007 trial, succeeded. I used virtual servers for both, now when i join the ex2007 (the latter one) server to the same domain i found both Ex2007 and ex2007 in the console, of course the Ex2007 shows some errors. I tried to remove the Ex2007, partly successful but in server configuration still can see the First Group db and just can't remove it. ex2007 works perfect and eventviewer keeps producing errors on Ex2007. Questions: 1) i did not run Ex2007 why i can see it when i run ex2007? because some info storedin domain controller? 2) how can i get rid of Ex2007 completely? 3) can we run more than one Exchange server in same domain? Thanks in advance. allan

Allan, There really is not an easy way to get the E2K7 server out of your organization. You are right, though, the information is stored in the Active Directory. Microsoft's recommendation is to rebuild the Windows server, install E2K7 with the /recoverserver switch, then go through the process of un-installing the software and removing the server. That should remove it properly. Here is a thread from Daniel Petri's site. http://www.petri.co.il/forums/showthread.php?t=22128 Jim

Thanks Jim. Sounds tough and complex. I don't have time for that now. As long as the other one works it's OK for me. I can't rebuild the domain controller cuz some server already joined to it ... I'll figure it out. Thanks. allan

Dear customer: Thanks for Jims reply. Exchange server 2007 is closely related to Active Directory, it stores configuration information in configuration partition of active directory database. This is why you dont install Exchange server 2007 sp1 successfully, but you can see them in the console. To remove the original Exchange server 2007, install adsiedit.msc tool on a domain controller, and perform the following steps: Remove Exchange 2007 configuration server object in Active Directory. Using ADSIedit locate the server Object: CN=Configuration, DC= Domain_Name ,DC=com, CN=Services, CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN= <Organization_Name>, CN=Administrative Groups, CN= Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT), CN=Servers, CN=<Server Name> Hope it helps. If anything is unclear, please feel free to let me know. Rock Wang - MSFT
