How to forward a mailbox to a smtp address?
Hi, Using SBS2008 with Exchange 2007. I can see where to set it, but it won't let me just put in a smtp address. I tried to create a contact record, but it would show that in the list either. Can someone help me with the proper way to do this? I don't want the contact to show up in the GAL. Thanks, Alan

Question: Do you want the mailbox to host mail? That is, do you want mail in both the mailbox and in the external mailbox to which you want to forward the mail? If yes, then you can create a MailContact using Exchange System Manager, and configure the mailbox's Mail Flow Settings, setting the Forward To to go to the contact you created. However, you should consider whether you need a mailbox at all. If the recipient doesn't need to log into the SBS server at all, then delete the mailbox and user account, and just create a MailContact for the user. He doesn't need a user account. If the recipient needs to log into the SBS server for other services, then mail-enable the user (New Mail User) which doesn't give him a mailbox. That's like a user that's also a MailContact. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." . I didn't answer part of your question. Regardless of the type of recipient you choose, if you want the recipient hidden from the address book, select the "Hide from address book" checkbox. -- Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems." .
