How to force public folders permission updating
Dear All, Mail System: Exchange Server 2007 (transitioning from Exchange 2003) - I have no problems with assigning users one by one, public folder has been effected immediately. - The problem occurs when I use a Universal Security Groups to assign permission to public folder. The public folder has been effected after a long time, I don't know the reason why, can you help me to find out this problem and fix it. - The same situation occurs when I add/remove any users from the USG. Thanks in advance, RandyRandy

After research I find that the Universal Distribution Group has this problem. So please try to convert the affected UDGs to USGs. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898082

Hi Mike Zou, I used USGs, not UDGs and I don't know the reason why, it's very strange! My Exchange Server 2007 is Service Pack 1. Thanks, RandyRandy

I have a PF tree below: Test -----Test1 -----Test2 - Users: u1, u2, u3, u4 - Universal Security Group: PF.Admin - PF.Admin = {u1,u2} -> an existing US Group with mail-enable - I want to assing PF.Admin to Test and sub folders with Owner right And here's my steps on Exchange Shell 1. Get-PublicFolder -Identity "\Test" -Recursive | Add-PublicFolderClientPermission -AccessRights Owner -User "PF.Admin" 2. And then, I open OWA to check with u1 and u2, it's working fine, no problems occur. 3. I use EMC to add u3 to PF.Admin 4. Open OWA to check the result, u3 doesn't have permission to access this folder. 5. I wait for 2 -> 4 hours and return to check u3's permission => it's OK. 6. I use EMC again to remove u1 out of PF.Admin 7. Open OWA to check the result, u1 can access this folder with Owner right. 8. Wait for 2 -> 4 hours, u1 has been disconnected from PF "Test" - I try to make some tests with MS Outlook and PFDavAdmin tool => the same situation occurs. - I think Public Folder cache all information of PF.Admin. When I change something on PF.Admin, PF doesn't update information immediately. ThanksRandy

Yes, This info takes 2 hours to update by default bcoz of Info store cache. after your step 3 3. I use EMC to add u3 to PF.Admin Try to restart the Microsoft Information store service on Mailbox server and then test it, it will then immediately be applied bcoz restart of Info store service will refresh the cache.
