How to exclude an email domain for Global Address List
Recently we configured a second exchange server in our organisation. The second exchange server is a member of our child domain and accepts email for that domain. Because both our exchange servers are part of the same organisation all the mailboxes/users for the child domain show up Global Address List. Is there a way I can filter these mailboxes out or exclude them from the Global Address List? All we would like to have in the global address list is the mailboxes for the root domain. For example <user>@root.domain.com will be seen in the Global address list and <user>@child.domain.com won't be.Thanks in advanced.

Hi there,Hiding the child users from the GAL will only satisy the non child domain members. Immediately hiding a user from address lists will also stop profile creation. Therefore you really need to seperate address lists. For Exchange 2003: http://www.msexchange.org/tutorials/Shared_Hosting_Exchange_2003_Part1.htmlFor Exchange 2007: http://www.msexchange.org/articles_tutorials/exchange-server-2007/migration-deployment/shared-hosting-exchange-2007-part1.htmlExchange 2010 isn't officially supported yet, although the 2007 how to guide above will work. Wait for further information from Microsoft as to the supportability of this.OliverOliver Moazzezi | Exchange MVP, MCSA:M, MCTS:Exchange 2010, BA (Hons) Anim | http://www.exchange2007.com | http://www.exchange2010.com | http://www.cobweb.com |
