How to enable PowerPivot and PowerView by default when installing Office 2013 ProPlus

Hi,

Is it possible to enable PowerPivot and PowerView by default when Office 2013 ProPlus is initially installed? I don't see any options to enable these features within the Office Customization Tool. I also tried the new version of OCT as well and it didn't expose any option for these features.

Would it be possible to use a script during the installation that will enable these features?

Thanks,

Rob

Hi,

Please see the article about OCT, there are no option to control the Power Pivot and Power View now.

Then, I recommend we try the two workaround:

Workaround 1:

Use GPP to edit the registry and enable the add-ins after installation Office.

Here is the registry key information:

Microsoft Office PowerPivot for Excel 2013 add-in
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\User Settings\PowerPivotExcelAddin
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.NativeEntry.1

disable: LoadBehavior: 0x00000002

enable: LoadBehavior: 0x00000003

Power View add-in
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\User Settings\PowerViewExcelAddin
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\AdHocReportingExcelClientLib.AdHocReportingExcelClientAddIn.1

disable: LoadBehavior: 0x00000002

enable: LoadBehavior: 0x00000003

Workaround 2:

Use a VBA/PowerShell script to manage the com add-ins. We could use AddIns.Add Method:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/office/ff834655(v=office.15).aspx

If you have any question about writing the script, I recommend your question to the MSDN forum for Excel

On a computer that has never had these enabled; this is how it is configured:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\User Settings\PowerPivotExcelAddin - key exists but LoadBehavior does not exist. Does LoadBehavior need to be added here?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.NativeEntry.1 - key exists and LoadBehavior is present and set to a value of 2.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\User Settings\PowerViewExcelAddin - key exists but LoadBehavior does not exist. Does LoadBehavior need to be added here?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\AdHocReportingExcelClientLib.AdHocReportingExcelClientAddIn.1 - does not exist at all. Does this key need to be added along with LoadBehavior?

Do you know if it is possible to just add these registry keys in the OCT? There is a section specifically used for adding registry keys.

Hi,

Yes, we could add these registry keys in the OCT, and after installation, PowerPivot and PowerView are enabled by default. Based on my tested in my environment Window 7 & Office 2013 Pro Plus),it worked successful, Please see the image:

I recommend you could add them manually or export them from the worked well pc and import to OCT MSP file.

Hope it's helpful.

Why did you decide on using 6 registry keys? Earlier you recommended only 4 keys. When I turn on PowerPivot and PowerView in the Com-AddIns, only two registry keys are changed:

Microsoft Office PowerPivot for Excel 2013 add-in
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.NativeEntry.1

enable: LoadBehavior: 0x00000003

Power View add-in
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\AdHocReportingExcelClientLib.AdHocReportingExcelClientAddIn.1

enable: LoadBehavior: 0x00000003

I added only these two keys to OCT and I can see PowerPivot is now in the ribbon. I still need to have someone test to be sure PowerPivot actually works.

Hi,

Because you said >>key exists but LoadBehavior does not exist.<< above. I'm afraid that the other keys also not exist. The four keys will appear when we installed Office 2013 Pro plus. I export the whole >>HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\Excel\Addins\PowerPivotExcelClientAddIn.NativeEntry.1<< with 4 keys from one pc which Office 2013 works well and then import to OCT, not add them one by one manually

The only thing I can say for sure is that adding the two registry keys I mentioned above allows the PowerPivot ribbon menu to appear. I haven't been able to get anyone to test to make sure that it works. I suspect it will but I just don't know for sure.

so we have a need now to deploy this version of Office due to Dynamics AX requirements and I followed the steps and still....Nothing.  Issue is that in ARP it shows as not installed even though I use OCT and specifically made sure all items except for outlook and one drive were set to run locally.  Anyone know how to use the config.xml file for this?  I only use it for setting the display and uninstall options.

this is very frustrating.
