How to delegate the right to create / delete contacts in Exchange 2007?
I've been looking for information on how to do this andread what follows:The second part of creating the contacts is that they need to be email enabled so emails can be sent to these contacts. I have been able to allow the users to create contacts but I am having trouble getting the permissions set for the email part.http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvradmin/thread/3fdfc7c8-14cb-4bac-8706-2a3ff09ab392/Does "mail enabled" mean all our external contacts would have a mailbox? Ordoes "email enabled" or "mailbox enabled" mean something else? Why would they need to be mailbox enabled for mail to be sent to them? Our contacts are external contacts, not users belonging to our organization.Out of curiosity, I starting the process of creating a new-mailbox (just out of curiosity I said) but theCONTACTS were not presented as choices (only USERS).Could someone clarify this?Otherwise, I already have delegated the right to manage distribution group membership with a PS cmdlet.I just need to delegate the right to add contacts in the first place.Only CONTACTS, and if possible only in a particular OU (organizational unit).

Active Directory Contacts cannot have a mailbox and therefore cannot be mailbox enabled, they can only be mail enabled. When mail enable a contact you must assign what is called external email address or target address. This address is where mail is going to be delivered when sending mail to the contact. To have a contact show up in the address list you must mail enable the contact.User objects can be mailbox enabled, ie having a mailbox to store mail in. They can also be mail enabled. They will behave similar tomail enabled contacts, no mailbox and mail will be sent to the target address. To create contacts you must first have permision in Active Directory to create contact objects (and much likely edit anddelete them as well). This will get you Active Directory contacts that are not mail enabled. Next permission is permission on the attribute that makes objects mail enabled. This is given by granting Recipient Administrator permission in Exchange. There is a universal group created when preparing for Excahnge 2007. Group is called "Exchange Recipient Administrators" and you could simply add accounts into it to grainting them the permission.lasse at humandata dot se, http://anewmessagehasarrived.blogspot.com
