Hi, The Managed folder policy works this way... 1. You create a managed content settings under Deleted Items folder. 2. Create a Managed folder mailbox policy to use that folder (Deleted items where you have created content settings). 3. You apply this policy to a user or all users. ------------------ To Answers your questions above... 1. How can i force a policy update? You dont need to force it, you just need to apply it on individual mailbox. 2. I would like to emails inthe Deleted Item folder to have a 1 day retention policy. Create a managed content settings under Deleted Items folder in Managed Default Folder tab (EMC -> Org Config -> Mailbox). Create a new policy to use that folder. Add that policy to users. Step by step information is on below MS article How to Apply a Managed Folder Mailbox Policy to User Mailboxes. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996575.aspx Thanks. Have you scheduled the Managed folder asistant to run? It is set to never run by default. Server Configuration > Mailbox Server > Click on the mailbox server that hosts the mailbox that you have set the policy on, Properties Or right click the server, properties. Click the Message Records Management Tab, Create a schedule. Some times i have had to kick it off initially with a Start-ManagedFolderAssistant Start-ManagedFolderAssistant is how you force the policy to run. you can also set the schedule by using Set-MailboxServer Mailboxservername -ManagedFolderAssistantSchedule Schedule The schedule parameters are set as following.. The ManagedFolderAssistantSchedule parameter specifies the intervals each week during which the managed folder assistant applies MRM settings to managed folders. The format is StartDay.Time-EndDay.Time. You can use the following values for the start and end days: Full name of the day Abbreviated name of the day Integer from 0 to 6, where 0 = Sunday The start time and end time must be at least 15 minutes apart. Minutes will be rounded down to 0, 15, 30, or 45. If you specify more than one interval, there must be at least 15 minutes between each interval. Examples: "Sun.11:30 PM-Mon.1:30 AM" 6.22:00-6.22:15 (The assistant will run from Saturday at 10:00 PM until Saturday at 10:15 PM.) "Monday.4:30 AM-Monday.5:30 AM","Wednesday.4:30 AM-Wednesday.5:30 AM" (The assistant will run on Monday and Wednesday mornings from 4:30 until 5:30.) "Sun.1:15 AM-Monday.23:00" If the managed folder assistant does not finish processing the mailboxes on the server during the time that you have scheduled, it automatically resumes processing where it left off the next time it runs.

I realized the Manage Policy folder is created in the end users Outlook 2007. Actually, I was trying to Deleted emails in a user Deleted Items folder. Majority of my users will not placed old emails in the Deleted Items folder. In Exchange 2003 i could create a policy that would remove emails in the end users Deleted Items folder without any assistance from the end users. Please assist me because I'm confused.

Its okay to be confused :) Managed folder Mailbox policies are the one which are created on server and are not visible in client machine (Outlook). you can still achieve your task (Deleting mails from Deleted Items folder from user's mailboxes) by MRM. 1. You have to create a Manged Content Setting under Deleted item folder in Managed Default folder (Organization configuration -> Mailbox -> Managed Default Folder) 2. Create a Managed Folder mailbox policy in Managed Folder Mailbox Policy Tab and Add Deleted Item folder in that Policy. 3. Now you have to assign this policy to all mailboxes. give the below command ( Get-mailbox | set-mailbox -ManagedFolderMailboxPolicy "name of new policy created" Let me know how it goes. The settigns have been applied in a test Lab. The policy is created and and everything looks good. This command works wonderful: Get-mailbox | set-mailbox -ManagedFolderMailboxPolicy "name of new policy created"1. (Srv Config -> Mailbox -> Server name -> properities MRM) Use Custom Schedule has been set to every hour.2. (Srv Config -> Mailbox ->DB Manage-> SG-> properties Maint. Schedule) Use Custom Schedule has been set to every hour.3. I have placed 6000 emails in my Deleted Items folder 8/27/2009 at 4:30. Note teh Policy has only been applies to one user in the test lab.4. This morning emails were still in my Deleted Items folder.I ran the following command this morning:Start-ManagedFolderAssistant -identity sever name. Why are the emails still present in my Deleted Items folder and whatcommand can I run to get immediated results?

One more questionIn Exchange 2003 you could set the Deleted Poilcy and then schedule the policy to run in 2 hours. Once the policy ran you could received results in and email.Problem: I have not foundan option thatwill allow me to set the Deleted Policy to run within hours of its creation. The policy normal runs2 days after the policy has been created. I love to find an option that will allow me to run the polciy 2 hours after its created. Also, how do can I get System Attendant notification?

If you want to start the Managed Folder Mailbox Policy immediately then then use Start-ManagedFolderAssistant The Schedule can be set in the Properties of Mailbox Server in EMC or by the cmdlet in EMS below (it can be scheduled on Server level) Set-MailboxServer -ManagedFolderAssistantSchedule "1.00:00 - 1.01:00, 1.03:00 - 1.04:00...and so on" If you want to schedule it for individual user then i suggest you create script using Start-Managedfolderassistant with mailbox parameter. Regarding System attendant notification, If you are talking about the notifications which you receive when scheduled assistant deleted mails from your mailbox, then i don't think this feature is available in Exchange 2007. Agree with Rich. See this article for configuring logging for MRM. Thanks.Vishal Ramnani | MCITP - Exchange 2007 | MCSE Messaging | MCTS - Win 2008 Config
