How to configure exchange with SBS
Hello, I am completely at a lost here and appreciate your help. Here's some background about the problem - I have a domain registered with enomcentral (not hosted) - I am using SBS 2007 and linked it to my domain - The MX record on enom is remote.domain-name.com - I can access the remote outlook and send emails to myself (currently I am the sole user) - I dont have a static IP in my office (if its relevant) The problem is I cannot send or receive email from outside the domain (i.e. gmail, hotmail, etc...). Can anyone please explain (in plain english) what I am doing wrong and what the solution? Do I need to pay enom for hosted email (then I dont need my exchange), do I need to purchase a static ip address? Or is there's a simple solution I am missing here. Many thanks for your help! Roy

Yes, you need to have static IP and assigned to Exchange server, set MX record in public DNS to point to static IP to deliver emails to Exchange server. However suggest you to use SBS newsgroup to get relevant assistant on configuring mailflow in SBS Exchange server. Hi Amit, Thanks for answering. Is there a way to bypass the static ip requirement (I thought SBS uses some sort of dynamic dns)? Roy

Please use the articles below to verify the configurations: Introducing the Connect to the Internet Wizard (CTIW) Introducing the Internet Address Management Wizard: Part 1 of 3 Introducing the Internet Address Management Wizard: Part 2 of 3 Introducing the Internet Address Management Wizard: Part 3 of 3 Per my knowledge, its not a best practice to use dynamic IP instead of the static, but if it must be set, we should contact the ISP to confirm if they support it and the detailed procedure

Yes, it is not best practices and moreover you need to have reverse DNS (host record) configured for MX record which is quite difficult to run with Dynamic IP and without reverse DNS you may also get rejection from certain domains.Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA, MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
