Is there a way how to deactivate the annoying attachment size limit for picture files and bring back the nice compression side menu of Outlook 2007 when inserting picture files into the message?
Is this option maybe hidden somewhere? I found only the option to reduce file size by reducing resolution to 1024x768 (under file menu) - but still couldn't attach more pictures.

There used to be an option in Outlook 2003 and 2007 to reduce the file size once added to a message. Where has this option gone ?

While I think of it, why has an option to scan directly into an email message not been considered/implemented ?

It is the button at the top right of the Adjust group. 

This is not a useful feature anymore, why did you Microsoft take away something that was very good :(

Please bring back the option to select compression option and not have to go hunting for it, and the new feature is not that good :(

That's straight from the help file and I think most of us can see that.  What we're looking for is the pop-up pane that gives you the choice of small-medium-large. Outlook 10 does not seem to do this anymore.  Now, when sending attachments I have to remember each time to go to the FILE menu and tell Outlook to resize my attachments????  There should AT LEAST be an option for setting that as a DEFAULT option.  Now I'll likely forget and end up choking recipients mailboxes. STUPID. STUPID. STUPID.

I think that Task Pane was removed because the data from the Customer Experience Improvment Program (which watches how people actually use Office applications) showed that thw vast majority of people saw that Task Pane once and immediately turned it off. They didn't like it being so intrusive.

Anyway, it does not exist in Outook 2010 now and there is no way to turn it back on.

There are several Add-Ins available from various manufacturers which will automatically compress attachments. These might be a suitable alternative. See these lists of tools:

Compressing picture attachments won't do you any good since jpg and png images are already highly compressed. You'll need to resample them to a lower resolution and/or dpi size.

Picture Attachments Wizard by fellow Outlook MVP Eric Legault is quite unique and very complete if you want to work more efficiently with your picture attachments.

A workaround to prevent you from sending a mail with large (picture) attachments would be to create a sending rule which delays the sending of the message when it is larger than what your ISP allows. This way you have time to correct your mistake without the message being uploaded to the server already and getting stuck in your Outbox. For details see;

I strongly agree with '51 Pinot, this was a very useful feature in 2007.  I had showed it to a number of co-workers who didn't understand what it did for them, maybe that's why people turned it off.  Please bring it back!!!!!!!

This is moving backwards for sure.!!!!!

I now email photos to me so as to reduce the size and then send them as attached items. The original funtion was so good. I might ask to go back to Outlook 2007. SO many things about 2010 I dont like - eg limiting size of attachements.

It looks like no one can fix the problem so we might have to go back to an earlier version. I know I have to for I do/did use Outlook for sending attached pictures. Sometimes hundreds a week. :(

You might consider buying balesio's FILEminimizer Suite to compress your pictures.

Amongst other things it has an Add-In to Outlook which offers to "optimize" all the attachments to emails you send. It can reduce the size of virtually all image files, even JPGs.
