How to arrange data in one column based on the data in another or adjacent column.

Hi,

I have an excel sheet with the data is in two columns.

I want the column C should be arranged as per column A.  A primary assumption is that the two columns do not have exactly the same records.

I did try the below formula from one of the solutions to a similar problem posted on this blog:

=MATCH(C1,A:A,False)

Works well only, upon sorting Column C I realized that I do not have the same exact records in both the columns.  Hence need a solution the same.

Thanks in advance.

Hello! :-)

Apologies I am not 100% sure I understand.

You have two columns, let say A and C in Excel? (maybe others but at least these).

When you say you want C sorted by A, do the values in A and C (go together)

imagine

A - Article Name C - AuthorName

So technically these go together as they are part of some bigger thing called "article details"

And you want to Sort A, but make sure that the correct AuthorName continues to exist in the same row as the Article Name it was associated too (in the row)???

Or do you mean you have

A - Article Name C - Article Name

And now you want to sort C, based on what is in A?

What is the outcome exactly you need, could you maybe give a visual example like I tried to do for you?

Cheers

Hi VNana,

This forum is for Developer discussions and questions involving Microsoft Excel, your issue is more related with Match function which is excel product feature, I will move this thread to the more related forum.
