Hi,

As far as I know, the File Block and Office File Validation features have settings that let you force files to open in Protected View when certain conditions are met. You can use these settings to determine the circumstances under which files open in Protected View.

If you only want to protect the particular document that the file can't be edit/modify, I recommend you use Restrict Editing feature of Word.

I don't want to go into Protected View just when specific conditions are met.  I want a way to force myself into Protected View at a moment of my choosing.
