How does Exchange 2010 CAS decide which 2003 http://Server_Name/public/?cmd=fre ebusy  server name?
I have a situation where two legacy servers are used in these queries that have no IIS server installed. I need to know why Exchange 2010 CAS servers use them so I can stop the 2010 servers from looking at them. http://Server_Name/public/?cmd=freebusy Where Server_Name is the name of the 2003 Exchange server... Most queries execute fine, but if the 2010 CAS server picks a server_name of a server with no IIS or /public virtual directory havoc breaks out for end users and MSExchange Availability Service 4003 errors are generated. Any help appreciated. MS Premier support has not come up with anything yet. My 4003 error is the same as the one here; except I have badexchange2003fqdn instead of 2010serverfqdn : http://www.patricktowles.com/2010/12/cleaning-up-legacyexchagnedn.html http://bad2003serverfqdn/public/?Cmd=freebusy&start=2010-12-01T00:00:00Z&end=2011-02-01T00:00:00Z&interval=30&u=Exchange2003users@SOME.SITE. Just to confirm I am in Co-Existence between 2010 sp1 and 2003 sp2.

Are there any mailboxes still on 2003? Have you moved all the PF to 2010? Also, check the default OAB, PF server in ADSIEDIT and make sure it is not pointing to a 2003 server.

Yes. Yes. I cannot find any publications on viewing the default OAB & PF server setting with ADSIEDIT? How can MS expect people to administrate Exchange when they don't publish information like this. What I can say is that I used set-oabvirtualdirectory to make the OAB web distribution point https://mail.mydomain.com/OAB (I use NLB to balance across four CAS servers). Also I used get-mailboxdatabase | set-mailboxdatabase -publicfolderdatabase msexch2010mbx01\pfdb01 to ensure clients use the 2010 pbdb01 database. Can anyone say where in AD these settings are stored? I don't need help finding a solution to a problem. I have a solution I just need some Microsoft documentation to elucidate the correct way to configure my servers. Hint: It doesn't exist or I would not have a case in with premier support or be asking in the Technet forums.

I have exch2003BE01 to exch2003BE06 (6 legacy back end servers) I have exch2010cas01 to 04 (4 2010 cas servers; NLB mail.mydomain.com) I have exch2010mbx 01 to 05 (5 2010 mbx servers in a DAG) mydomain.com

Not everyone can get to Flickr. If you still see 2003 PF in get-offlineaddressbook then change it by following the link below. http://blog.ronnypot.nl/?p=212

OK it has the Exchange 2003 legacy server. This doesn't answer my question or solve my issue related to the free/busy query failures, but it is something I had not known about before so thanks for the link and assistance. The AD content for PF OAB location was something I needed eventually. I don't understand why a company that produces a product then has no willingness to publish detailed information about that product. I wasn't aware certain countries either banned or have no route to flickr. I will see if there is somewhere else I can upload images to in the future.

Ok, for free/buy, have you made sure that 2010 mailbox databases are pointing to 2010 PF. 2003 mailbox dbs are pointing to 2003 server with IIS.

Ok I did a Get-MailboxDatabase | fl name, PublicFolderDatabase mbxdb001 through 015 have my exchange 2010 pf db set in the publicFolderDatabase field. How do I check to see if the 2003 mailbox db's are pointing to the 2003 servers? Keep in mind I have no access to the clients 2003 system so I have to do this through EMS or searching through AD's configuration partition. I think this is going to stay unsolved and I will just have to wait for someone with esoteric MS information @ Premier support to help.

Through ESM, click on the each database and check the PF that has been assigned.
