My app opens automatically in compatibility mode.  How do I turn that off.  I only want to use this when I need it.

Hi,

Compatability mode is there to ensure your spreadsheet is compatable with prior versions of excel. In Excel 2007 you be in Compatibility mode when you open a Excel 97-2003 xls workbook.
Try saving as a .xlsx format (2007 xml based) and you will not lose the settings. IN doing so users with prior versions will not be able to open the document without losing the any formating or features not backward compatible.

Change the default file format to one of the 2007 formats and you will not see it.

Can you please be more specific??? It's not at all clear from your response what one is supposed to do.

I'm in Excel 2010 and would like to use Sparklines but can't figure out how to turn off compatibility mode.

After I saved my doc as .xlsx I have to close it and reopen it for the compatibility mode to turn off and make the sparklines appear. Hope this helps.

Just found this on Google so appreciate post is from 2010 but no-one seems to have mentioned that if you go to File -> Info there is a 'convert' option which you can use to convert from 2003 to 2010 without having to re-save manually yourself. It'll come up with a message saying 'do you want to re-open now?', click yes and you'll have a 2010 version of your workbook with no compatability mode.

I don't think you can turn it off, but it'll stop being a problem once everyone starts using office 2010 anyway which now office 2003 support is ending should be soon, one would hope

go to file ==> options ==> save ==> save files in this format choose Excel Workbook. Click OK

That'll do it!
