How do I setup Exchange 2007 to receive email from a scanner?
I have a big printer/copier/scanner that can scan, then send the scan to someone via email. The scanner sends scans via SMTP. How do I setup a receive connector on Exchange 2007 to be able to receive email from this scanner? Everything is on the local network: the scanner, the Exchange server, and the email recipients' mailboxes are on the Exchange server (nothing has to go in or out to the internet).

Create a new receive connector on your HT server. In the Permission Groups, select Exchange Servers (I know it seems wrong, but that's how it works) On the Authentication tab, select TLS, and Externally Secured On the Network tab, add your scanner's IP address under Receive mail from these remote servers.

As mjolinor mentioned, you need to create another receive connector on Exchange 2007 to receive email from your scanner. When you go through the process, you will see three types and select custom. You can see more info here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb124327(EXCHG.80).aspx You need to specify the IP address of the scanner in the connector. Thanks for the help! I also found this: http://msexchangeteam.com/archive/2006/12/28/432013.aspx I just setup the connector according to the directions, but I am unable to test it at this time. Besides what is in that article, is there anything else that needs to be done?

That should be enough to get it to send email. I'd make sure you set the thing up with a From: address that resolves to a mailbox in Exchange so you get any NDR's it generates for troubleshooting. There may also be some setup for address book lookup if it can do that and you want to implement it, but that's going to be an AD/LDAP question.
