How do I set up a default address policy to an 'accepted domain' that is type external relay?
Hi I'm trying to configure my SBS 2008/Exchange 2007 using the POP3 Connector to transition users over to Exchange. However, in order to do this I've had to set my domain.name to be an external relay so that users moved over to Exchange can still email colleagues whose mailboxes still connect via POP3 to an external hosted mail server. The problem is though, that by doing this I can no longer create an address policy to apply to all users of, for example, %g.%s@domain.name because the so called accepted domain does not come up as an option to choose (only the authoritative domain.local ) is an option even though both domains are listed under the accepted domain tab. Therefore, all my mailboxes now have %g.%s@domain.local as the default email address/reply as setting and I cannot amend this to be what I really want. How can I get around this problem until I can safely move all my users over to Exchange and change domain.name to be authoritative instead of an external relay? Regards, Jim

Your problem is quite common in the SBS world. Don't use External Relay. Instead use Internal Relay Exchange accepts email for this domain, but is not the authority for all of its mail delivery, meaning that some recipients in this domain do not have mailboxes in the Exchange Organization. The common example that we see in SBS for this type of domain is with the use of the POP3 Connector, where a customer has configured SBS to share the same SMTP namespace as their ISP. If USERA@contoso.com has a mailbox at both the ISP and on SBS, but USERB@contoso.com only has a mailbox at the ISP, then configuring an Internal Relay accepted domain in addition to the existing SMTP connector will allow SBS 2008 mailbox users to send email to USERB.How to Configure Non-Authoritative Accepted Domains in SBS 2008 (Exchange 2007)http://blogs.technet.com/sbs/archive/2008/09/25/how-to-configure-non-authoritative-accepted-domains-in-sbs-2008-exchange-2007.aspxNow everything should work.
