Want to go back to my old windows due to various bugs and annoyances. There are no system restore points available before technical preview download and there isn't an option when i log on. I have also tried to put my old product key back in ( for windows 8.1) but that doesn't do anything either. Any Ideas???

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to uninstall Windows 10 technical preview and go back to Windows 8.1, am I right? If yes, there may be 2 different scenarios:

If you upgrade Windows 10 technical preview from Windows 8.1, we may try to use Windows Rollback option:

• Start the machine and boot into Windows 10 Technical Preview latest build.
• Youll following screen, where youre asked to select an operating system. Notice the Windows Rollback option there, click it.

• One youve hit Windows Rollback in previous, youll receive Restoring you previous version of Windows screen. Wait for few minutes, and the Windows 10 will be uninstalled, leaving your system running will earlier Windows edition.

If you fresh installed Windows 10 technical preview, we may need to reinstall Windows 8.1. Please see the article below:
