How do I move autodiscover from default location to autodiscover.domain.com?
Hello,
Brand new Exchange 2010 SP1 install. I noticed that my Autodiscover virtual directory doesn't have internal/extenal URL's configured, but I'm assuming clients would access it through https://serverfqdn/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml. How would
I move it over to https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml so that external clients could access it?
Would I need to simply add the URL to the default Autodiscover virtual directory or would I need to create a new autodiscover virtual directory, delete the default and update the SCP?
Thanks

Hi,
You may set it by:
Set-AutodiscoverVirtualDirectory -Identity 'autodiscover (default Web site)' -ExternalUrl 'http://www.contoso.com'

Hi,
There are a lot of methods that Outlook uses to local the autodiscover url, Outlook check them one by one in the following orders:
1. Retrieve autodiscover url from SCP in AD. (If it is an internal Outlook client and AD can be connected)
2. Resolve the autodiscover via DNS according to suffix of user's SMTP address.
3. Check if there are any local xml for autodiscover.
4. Look up the autodiscover via SRV record.
According to your requirement, we do not need to change the settings on the autodiscover VD. When a external Outlook client tries to access autodiscover,
it will skip the first step because no AD can be connected. Then it will jump to the second DNS lookup method. It will access
https://domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
and
https://autodiscover.domain.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml
automatically.
You may run a Test Email auto-configuration on a Outlook Anywhere client and you can see all the details.
Test Email auto-configuration
======================
a. While Outlook is running, click the CTRL key and then right-click the Outlook icon in the system tray and then select “Test Email Autoconfiguration”.
b. Confirm that your email address is in the address field,
uncheck “Use Guessmart” and “secure Guessmart
authentication” boxes. Then click the “Test” button.
c. Check the
