How do I make exchange 2003 look at the mailnickname instead of the legacyexchangedn for nicknames?
I cannot rename an AD account so that outlook displays the correct autocomplete name from the drop down list.Yes I have cleared the nk2 file and deleted it manually. The incorrect autocomplete name keeps on coming back.I found out that Outlook 2003 is looking at the legacyexchangednAD attribute to populate the the nickname cache, nk2 file.Is there anyway to make it look at the mailnickname AD attribute, new in Exchange 2000 & 2003, without screwing up the Exchange delivery process? If not, can I edit the legacyexchangedn with the AD edit tool, delete all the nk2 files on everyone's machine,so that Outlook populates the correct nicknames?

Have you tried rebuilding the GAL, clearing the Outlook OAB Chache, clearing the NK2 file. This should force your outlook clients to take the new info from the AD.

I have also had this issue. using nk2view it would appear the display name is represented as the legacyexchangedn field. renaming users obviously causes this cache to be incorrect. Is there any documentation on this nk2 file and possibly a way for it to cache smtp addresses only? it seems like that would be best, as Exchange 2007 can work with SMTP only...
