How do I make a Dynamic DL a member of a normal DL
We had a series of Dynamic DLs that were based on just the OU that the mail user was in. With Exchange 2003, these were easy to use, but once we got to Exchange 2007, they were un-editable.So, we deleted all 2003 Query-Based distribution lists and re-created them as Exchange 2007 Dynamic Groups.Unfortunately, now we cannot make the Dynamic Groups members of other Distribution Lists. They either do not exist in ADUC or the option to add members is grayed out in E2k7.Is there a cmdlet that will let me make a Dynamic Group a member of a static DL? (or of course, to add to a DL a Dynamic Group as a member)

Issue description: Query-Based Distribution List (QBDL) cant be added into Distribution List (DL) as you cant find QBDL in the ADUC and option to add members in the Properties of DL has grayed out via EMC. Please correct me if I have misunderstood the issue To add QBDL as a member into a DL, please refer to the example in this article You said They either do not exist in ADUC or the option to add members is grayed out in E2k7, can you describe the symptom more detailed? Whether QBDL or DL doesnt exist in the ADUC? Where the grayed option exactly stays? Resources: Managing Distribution Groups Dynamic Distribution Group quirkiness in Exchange 2007

Thanks for the help - let me clarify; The QBDLs will appear in ADUC - listed with a pale blue icon and the display name. Opening the properties in ADUC for a QBDL will show the email address and the Alias of the QBDL.When I open the properties of a DL within ADUC(2003), and then add a member to the DL one of the display names of a QBDL, it responds that the object cannot be found. If I try to addto the DLmembers the Alias of the QBDL, ADUC replies that the object cannot be found. If I try to addto the DLmembers theemail addressof the QBDL, ADUC replies that the object cannot be found. The QBDL and the DL are in the same OU. The Alias, Display Name or Emailaddressof the DL and the QBDL do not contain special characters. In EMC(2007), the QBDL is listed, and the DL is listed. If I open the properties of the DL, then the Add button on the Members tab is greyed out.We have one domain. We have 68 sites,8 domain controllers (all GCs), 3 Exchange servers and33 QBDLs and 300 DLsDoes that help you to help?

Yes, we cannot add QBDL via ADUC in the exchange 2007, its an expected behavior Can you use the cmdlet in the link I gave to add the QBDL into DL? In this way, we can check if the issue is caused by EMC. If we still cant do it via EMS, whats the error output? Is there any error event in the application log? Are all the DLs migrated from exchange 2003? Please create a new test DL, see if the Add button still gray out. In this way, we can know if the symptom is caused by DL itself

We found the problem. (Yes, the cmdlet helped, as it gave us the error message we needed to see) We only have one domain. So for us, there is no difference between a Universal Group and a Global Group. But, Exchange 2007 wants a DG (Dynamic Group, no longer a QBDL(!)) to be a member of a Universal Group and not a Global Group. Once we changed our Global Group to a Universal Group, it could take the Dynamic Group as a member - it became editable in the Exchange 2007 EMC.What is the difference between a Global Group and a Universal Group when you have only one domain, and all DCs are also GCs - as far as I can tell, there is no difference other than this issue.
