How do I make a Contact with same information as a Distribution Group (ultimately for smartphone use)?
I am trying to make a Contact in Exchange that has the same information (alias, name, email address) as a mail-enabled Distribution Group. For example: info@domain.com is a mail-enabled Distribution Group But I want a Contact with info@domain.com as the email address as well. When I try to make this happen, I get the error ‘Error: The Proxy address "xxx@domain.com" is already being used by 'domain/users/user' Please choose another proxy address,’ which is to be expected. How do I accomplish the need of having a Contact that points to that Distribution Group’s email address? In case you are wondering why I’m doing this, we are trying to craft a work-around for the fact that distribution groups do not synchronize with smartphones. We want to make a contact for the distribution groups since they only have a single email address, so we can use those to email the distribution groups using our phones. We want to keep these as contacts in Exchange so we can manage the email addresses and provide an easy way to drag-and-drop contacts into Outlook, ultimately for smartphone synchronization.

I'mnot sure it can be done with a mail contact. However, you can create a mailbox user, and on the Mail Flow Settings tab open Delivery Options and check Forward to: and have all mail to that mailbox forwarded to the DL.TBrennan

Hi, You can take TBrennan's suggestion or you can create a contact with a unique SMTP address. And then create a transport rule to set all the mail sending to that SMTP address will forward to the specified DL address. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
