How can I check how many licences I have for Exchange server 2003?
Hi, I have found several other questions about how many Exchange licences are needed in various circumstances but I need to find out how many we currently have. The system was set up before I started working here and there is no one left that knows about these sort of things. I managed to dig out the original invoice for the server which included 30 exchange CALs but doesn't specify whether they are user or device CALs. But I'm not sure how to check if we've purchased additional licences since then. Thanks, Simon

Contact your reseller or whoever you bought your licenses from If that fails, contact MS licensingSukh

Exchange doesn't keep track of CALs. It's strictly an agreement between you and Microsoft with a reseller potentially in the middle.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Hi Sukh, Does Microsoft not have a record of it somewhere? I dont know who the reseller is. We have someone who we ahve recently bought licences from but he is a sales person who seems happy to tell me anything as long as he gets a sale out of it. He has said he can contact Microsoft on my behalf to find out how many we currently have but needs my permission. I'd rather do that myself since he has previously told us we need several licences that we didn't. I have just spoken to MS licencing and been told they can not tell me because it has to go through the reseller! I'm not sure why they make it so difficult to find out what you need. It's complicated enough as it is. I'm getting tempted to just leave it and we can pay if we're audited. If they tell us what we need we are happy to pay but it looks like they dont want our money! I'll see if Insight can get it since I trust them more.

The problem is, that you bought your licenses from a reseller. This sales person must work for a company. Contact them, ask them in writing what you need and ask them to respond in writing. This was you can;t be held liable. This is how if works if you bouhgt from a reseller. If the reseller isn;t helping, then you can contact MS and escalate this within.Sukh
